Reimagining the Public Library — A Spatial Brand + Community Campaign
CIVIC DESIGN • ENVIRONMENTAL + SPACIAL BRANDING • EXPERIENCE DESIGN • COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Facing a decline in adult engagement, a public library client in Topeka, Kansas needed a new way to connect with adults who no longer saw the library as relevant to their daily lives. The brief wasn’t about encouraging more reading, it was about rethinking how the library shows up for adults in the first place.
I created the brand TOP in response and designed it as a fully integrated system that lives across space, events, and everyday touchpoints. The work spanned brand identity, environmental graphics, and experience design, with concepts developed and tested through 3D modeling and spatial layouts. Deliverables included downtown building projections, a pop-up Book Bar event complete with custom bar design and room planning, a self-serve library media vending machine, and supporting physical and digital assets that tied the experience together. Each element was designed to work on its own while reinforcing a larger narrative, repositioning the library as social, accessible, and worth engaging with again, on adults’ own terms.
